The 49th International Kolkata Book Fair is scheduled to begin on January 22, 2026, organizers announced on Monday (November 3, 2025). The theme country of this edition of the annual book fair is the Latin American country Argentina. The book fair will be held from January 22 to February 3 at Boimela Praangan, Karunamoyee, Salt Lake.

The fair will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the presence of writers, artists, scholars and poets. An official of the organizers said, “At present the International Kolkata Book Fair is the largest non-trade book festival in the world.

Twenty-seven lakh book lovers visited the last book fair in 2025 and book sales stood at โ‚น23 crore. ” The focal themed country’s logo was also unveiled on Monday. Argentina will be a part of the book fair for the first time since its inception.

Organizers said, “We are confident that it will contribute to building stronger bilateral cultural ties between the two countries. ” Mr.

Andres Sebastian Rojas, Head of the Political and Cultural Section of the Embassy of Argentina in India and Mrs. Anandi Quipo Riavitz, Head of the Consular Section of the Embassy of Argentina in India were also present at the launch ceremony of the formal book fair.

Great Britain, USA, Germany, Australia, France, Spain, Peru, Colombia, Japan, Thailand and other Latin American countries will participate in the upcoming book fair. Additionally, there will also be publications from other states of India, such as Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar, Assam, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Odisha, Tripura and others.

Silver Jubilee Year Since 2027 will be the silver jubilee year of the Kolkata International Book Fair, the organizers have urged photographers to share their iconic archival photographs of the fair taken in the first two decades of its existence from 1976 to 1996. Souvenir of the IKBF,โ€ the organizers said.
