improve road safety – A total of 541 motorists were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol during the two-day special enforcement drive conducted by Hyderabad and Cyberabad traffic police on January 9 and 10 as part of efforts to improve road safety. Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 404 motorists.
Most of these were two-wheeler riders, of whom 349 cases were registered, while 24 three-wheeler drivers and 31 four-wheeler drivers and drivers of other vehicles were also booked. Meanwhile, Cyberabad traffic police caught 137 criminals. Here too, most of the culprits were two-wheeler drivers, of whom 92 cases were reported, followed by 39 four-wheeler drivers, five three-wheeler drivers and one driving a heavy vehicle.
Cyberabad Commissionerate courts disposed of 929 drunk driving cases between January 5 and January 9. Of these, 23 offenders were sentenced to fines and imprisonment, 33 were fined with social service, while the remaining 873 cases were only fined.
Traffic police officials reiterated that there will be zero tolerance towards drunk driving violations and said such special drives will continue in the coming days.
