Late Saturday night (October 25, 2025), two houses were partially buried by a landslide at Kumbhanpara near Adimali in Idukki district, reportedly trapping at least one family inside. A massive search and rescue operation is being conducted to rescue the families. Police have sent earthmovers to clear the debris and rescue the families.

Idukki MP Dean Kuriakose told local reporters that emergency responders had contacted Biju and his wife Sandhya, who were trapped in their home, on mobile phones. The fire and rescue department was using a portable pneumatic drill to break through the concrete roof of the house and reach them, he said.

Mr Kuriakose said he did not know whether there were any occupants of the neighboring house. He said that due to heavy rains in Idukki district in the last few days, the district administration had evacuated residents of the disaster-hit area.

However, he said, Biju and Sandhya had returned home from the relief camp to collect some important documents when the accident occurred. The government has sent an NDRF team to the incident site.
