Shreyas Iyer admitted – India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been admitted to a Sydney hospital after medical reports revealed internal bleeding from a rib injury. The Indian board, after consulting its medical team, decided to re-hospitalise Iyer as a precautionary measure.

A BCCI official said, “It is a strange injury and the medical team is in touch with the hospital. The medical team has advised him to be readmitted as he is bleeding in his rib.

We are hopeful that he will recover by the end of this week. ” Story continues below this advertisement.

Iyer was injured while taking a brilliant running catch to dismiss Australian batsman Alex Carey during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. He had to run back from point and injured his rib while falling down to touch the grass after taking the catch.

He did not field in the remaining innings and was taken to hospital after complaining of severe pain in his ribs. Iyer’s career has been going bad for some time due to injury. The Indian middle-order batsman had earlier written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he would be taking a ‘break from red-ball cricket’ for some time due to his back stiffness and fatigue problem.

The board had accepted his request.
