earth moving – Even though the Earth is rotating on its axis and moving around the Sun, we still do not feel that the Earth is rotating, because everything around us is rotating with it at the same constant speed. The Earth rotates once every 24 hours, which means that at the equator you are actually rotating at a speed of about 1,600 km/h.
It travels around the Sun at a speed of approximately 1,07,000 km/hour. But since this motion is smooth and steady, there is no change in speed or direction that our body can sense.
Our inner ears and body detect motion only when acceleration occurs, such as when a car starts, stops, or turns. When a car moves continuously on a smooth highway, you cannot feel the speed unless you look outside.
The same idea applies to the motion of the Earth. There is no sudden acceleration, and we move along with the planet, the air, the oceans, and everything on it. We cannot see this motion directly because distant stars and the Sun appear stationary from our perspective.
It is only through scientific observation, such as watching stars rise and set or measuring time differences, that we know that the Earth is in constant motion.
