Biju Janata Dal on Saturday (December 13, 2025) targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party government, saying that Mohan Majhi has become the first Chief Minister to take a luxurious VIP bungalow in Delhi after the formation of separate Odisha state. Moreover, the regional party expressed strong objection to the deployment of a platoon of police led by the Camp Commander for the security of the Odisha CM at his Delhi bungalow. Addressing a press conference on Saturday, BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty said, “The Odisha government already has Odisha Bhavan, Odisha Niwas and Odisha Sadan in Delhi.

After demolishing Odisha Bhavan for reconstruction, the Chief Minister’s stay during his Delhi visit has been arranged in a one-star hotel. However, Mr Majhi, who calls himself the ‘people’s Chief Minister’, is not satisfied with this and has opted for a VIP bungalow.

” “As per protocol, whenever a CM visits Delhi, security is provided by Delhi Police. However, the question arises whether the Odisha CM does not trust the Delhi Police for his security.

Instead he has chosen a platoon of Odisha Police at huge cost to the state exchequer,” Mr Mohanty said. The BJD spokesperson asked, “Such a security arrangement for a CM is unheard of before.

Even after being the CM for 24 years, Naveen Patnaik led a very ordinary life and never thought of buying a bungalow in Delhi by spending money from the government treasury. Why did Mohan Majhi feel the need for this after being the Chief Minister for just one and a half years? Is he feeling insecure because of the intense power struggle within the Odisha BJP?” the BJD spokesperson asked. After the formation of the ‘double engine government’ BJD also took a dig.

In Odisha, people expected the central grants and assistance to the state to be doubled, โ€œHowever, despite Mr Majhi visiting Delhi several times every month, the central assistance is decreasing instead of increasing. The stateโ€™s pending dues are not being released from the Centre, and within one and a half years the stateโ€™s debt burden has increased rapidly,โ€ the party pointed out.
