Kashmir Champions League – A cricketer from south Kashmir, who allegedly played a local tournament wearing a Palestinian flag printed helmet, was summoned for questioning by police in Jammu on Thursday. Although senior police officials did not respond to requests for comment on the matter, sources said the organizer of the cricket tournament was also called to the Domana police station.
Sources said cricketer Furkan Bhat was taking part in a tournament called Jammu and Kashmir Champions League, organized by Sajid Bhat, also from Kashmir, at a private ground on the outskirts of Jammu city. Furkan Bhat was representing the team named JK11, and he came to bat during the fourth over of the match against Jammu Trailblazers on Wednesday. On Thursday, a video went viral on social media, in which he is purportedly seen wearing a helmet with the Palestinian flag.
Sources said that both the persons were called by the police to Domana police station. Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) officer-in-charge Brigadier Anil Gupta said the tournament was organized privately. The story continues below this advertisement, “JKCA has nothing to do with this tournament.
It is a privately organized event involving local players, and strangely, spectators are also not allowed. The incident was brought to our attention, but it is being handled by the local police. They will take necessary action as it is not within our jurisdiction.
