The AIFF on Tuesday finalized the Indian Super League charter starting from the 2026-27 season. The charter has now been sent to all clubs for feedback. Planned for a 20-season cycle, the ISL will be run by a Governing Council and a Management Committee.
The Council, chaired by the AIFF President/Vice President, will consist of 22 members, 14 from each club, and three from the commercial partner. The AIFF President/Secretary General, Vice President and Treasurer will complete the roster along with two independent members, one nominated by the AIFF and the other nominated by the clubs.
The Committee will run the local operations of ISL under the supervision of the Council. The AIFF Secretary General/Deputy General Secretary will chair the committee and will also include the head of competitions and head of strategy from the federation. The remaining eight seats on the committee will be for ISL clubs (five) and commercial partners (three).
Of the club representatives, three will be mutually elected by majority vote (by all clubs), and two will be from the top two teams of the previous season (can change each year). The tenure of each member of the Council (except club representatives, unless there is a change in control of the club) and the Committee is for three ISL seasons, starting with the season preceding the one in which they are appointed. No Club representative should serve on the Committee for two terms unless he has completed a cooling period of three sessions between such terms.
