Jammu Symbolic Image – Symbolic Image Jammu: Kashmir division has more registered voters (4,581,375) than Jammu division (4,161,503), according to the latest district-wise enrollment data presented in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Wednesday. The UT has 8,742,878 voters, including 4,465,161 males, 4,277,568 females and 149 third gender voters, with Srinagar district topping the list.
(29) In the third category. There are 19 voters of the third gender in Pulwama and two in Kupwara. There are 99 such voters in Kashmir division.
Jammu district has the highest number of voters (1,189,555) and Kishtwar district has the lowest at 178,402, the government told the Assembly in response to questions raised by PDP’s Pulwama MLA Waheed Parra, who also asked the government to list the steps taken to achieve 100 per cent enrolment. โThe increase in voter turnout from the Valley can be largely attributed to greater participation by youth and first-time voters after years of exclusion,โ Parra said.
The government said that as per the Representation of the People Act, 1950, the Election Commission of India has notified four qualifying dates every year for Special Summary Revision (SSR) of the electoral roll in the UT.
