Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav said on Saturday (April 11, 2026) that four Indian-born leopard cubs were born in Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. The latest litter takes the total population of leopards in India to 57. Mr Yadav also said this is the first recorded cheetah birth in the open forest since the launch of Project Cheetah, India’s reintroduction program for the big cat species, in 2022, as all previous births have taken place inside large enclosures at Kuno.

These cubs were born to the daughter of South African cheetah Gamini.
