Quaternary Science Reviews – Solving the mystery of how Neanderthals went extinct, researchers from the Universities of Cambridge and Montreal have now claimed that climate change was not the primary cause. Instead, they suggest that Homo sapiens succeeded because of their better social interactions while Neanderthal populations suffered from the effects of poor social interactions. The findings, published April 1 in Quaternary Science Reviews, were based on habitat suitability modeling: using algorithms to predict where ancient humans would have preferred to live based on simulations of climate over 60,000 years.
