Amritsar wedding Amritsar – Amritsar: An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sarpanch, who had gone to attend a wedding, was shot dead in Punjab’s Amritsar on Sunday. Two armed assailants stormed the venue between 2.
30 and 3 pm and opened fire on Jarmal Singh, sarpanch of Valtoha village in Tarn Taran district. He was shot in the head at close range, authorities said.
This was not the first attempt on Singh’s life. Police records show that the sarpanch had survived three previous assassination attempts.
The gunmen attacked the newlywed couple shortly after they left the venue. A police spokesperson said, “The attackers came with a premeditated intention.
Eyewitness statements indicate that the attackers did not cover their faces and we suspect that the victim was under surveillance before the attack. ” Singh was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
A video surfaced, in which he is seen lying injured at the spot. No arrests had been made till late Sunday night.
The police were focusing on a photograph that had surfaced, purportedly showing the attackers. Additional Deputy Commissioner JS Walia said that investigation is going on in the matter. “We have surrounded the resort and are questioning the guests.
CCTV footage is being analyzed to trace the escape route of the suspects,” Walia said.
