(With inputs from agencies) New Delhi: In a new revelation, Delhi Police has busted a fabricated acid attack case, which turned out to be a carefully planned conspiracy. What initially appeared to be a case of violence against a young woman has now turned out to be a fake crime, allegedly done to protect the woman’s father who is facing charges of sexual harassment and blackmail. According to police officials, a 20-year-old woman had claimed that she was attacked with acid near Lakshmi Bai College, leaving her with burn injuries.
The police took immediate action and registered an FIR and started investigation. However, inconsistencies in the woman’s statement soon raised doubts.
Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ravindra Singh Yadav said, “During the investigation, it was revealed that the story was largely false. The people who were accused were not even there.
This was done as part of a conspiracy, and was aimed at saving the girl’s father from a case. ” Investigation revealed that the woman’s father, Aqeel Khan, had been accused of sexual harassment. Harassment and blackmail by another woman just two days before the alleged attack.
The girl and her father allegedly planned the entire attack to divert attention and trap the complainant’s husband. Yadav said, “As soon as we received information about the acid attack, we immediately registered an FIR and started investigation.
This was done to implicate the woman’s husband. The complaint names the woman’s husband and two people who were relatives of the girl.
There was a land dispute going on with those relatives and in a plot dispute, they threw acid on the woman who owned that plot. ” He and his daughter also exploited the wife of the man whose name had appeared in the false complaint.
”We have arrested Akil Khan (the girl’s father) on charges of sexual harassment and blackmail,” Yadav said. The extent to which the family was allegedly harassing led to obstruction of justice.
According to the police, the incident of alleged acid attack was reported at 10. 52 am on Sunday, when the girl claimed that three men attacked her with acid while she was on her way to college.
She alleged that one of the attackers had been stalking her for the past one year.
