trips Indian Railways – Indian Railways on Friday announced that a total of 116 coaches have been added to 37 trains to facilitate stranded passengers amid the ongoing air traffic disruption due to the cancellation of several IndiGo flights. Railways has also planned 30 special trains from Delhi and other metros. A senior Railway Ministry official said, “These 37 trains with additional 116 coaches have been deployed for a total of 114 journeys.

These trains will have different frequency depending on the demand, operating for a maximum of seven days. With a capacity of 4,000 passengers per journey, this arrangement will be a relief to many passengers.

” Overall, arrangements have been made to handle 35,000 passengers daily through these trains, he said. These 37 trains are spread across multiple zones โ€“ Northern Railway, Western Railway, Northeast Frontier Railway, East Central Railway, East Coast Railway, Eastern Railway and Southern Railway. These trains will run between 5-13 December.

Initially, Northern Railway zone added AC 3-tier (3A) and chair car coaches in high demand trains like New Delhi-Jammu Tawi and New Delhi-Dibrugarh. These long distance routes are generally affected when flights are cancelled.

Later, other zones also followed this trend as Southern Railway deployed a number of sleeper (SL) coaches especially on the Chennai-Trivandrum, Chennai-Kollam, Chennai-Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram-Kozhikode routes. Similarly, Eastern and Northeast Frontier Railway added a mix of SL, AC 2-tier and 3A coaches on major intercity routes.

Story continues below this advertisement Western Railways added 2A coaches to trains on Mumbai and Sabarmati to New Delhi, both important business routes. Northeast Frontier Railway added 3A and SL coaches in Guwahati-Sairang (Aizawl) and Sairang-Guwahati trains.

The official said Eastern Railway has added SL and CC coaches on commuter heavy sections like Howrah-Raxaul, Sealdah-Jayanagar and Sealdah-Ballia.
