On Sunday, October 26, a gang of six bike-borne assailants allegedly opened fire on a gram panchayat member in an attempt to kill him over an old rivalry on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The victim was identified as Salim Pasha, 50, a resident of Islampur and a member of Kannegoudanahalli gram panchayat. He was shot on his right hand, after which he was taken to the hospital for treatment.
It is being told that at present he is out of danger. The incident occurred around 6. 30 pm, when Pasha was chatting with locals outside a shop at 7th Cross in Islampura.
Nelamangala rural police have registered a case and started investigation to identify the attackers. Police suspect that the attack was carried out due to political rivalry. Police said the attackers used country-made guns in the attack.
“We have collected some leads and are working on them to trace the accused,” a senior police officer said.
