Boundless compassion God – God’s divine grace and mercy are truly immeasurable. Sri Hariji described various attributes of God in a discourse.
Lord Narasimha gently seated the child devotee Prahlad in his lap and with immense compassion lovingly inquired about his well-being. In response, Prahlad humbly said that his devotion could never be equal to the infinite mercy of God. Although decisions are generally taken on the basis of majority, Lord Rama displayed his unique compassion towards Vibhishana.
While everyone except Hanuman opposed Vibhishana’s acceptance, Rama welcomed him politely because of his complete dedication, even though Vibhishana came from the enemy camp. Rama blessed Ahalya and returned her to her original form, and granted her salvation as a reward for her steadfast devotion. Lord Krishna saved Draupati when she cried out “Govinda” in her moment of deepest distress and humiliation.
The Lord declared that he would always be indebted to Draupati for her unwavering faith and whole-hearted devotion. The young devotee Dhruva, who performed intense penance, was given an exalted and eternal place in the ‘Dhruv Mandal’ โ a special divine realm created by the Lord himself.
This divine honor was given in appreciation of the child’s steadfast devotion and unwavering determination. Another example is of Lord Vishnu saving the elephant Gajendra from the clutches of a crocodile, when the helpless creature had sincerely pleaded for divine help.
The scriptures teach that a person is destined to be reborn according to the last thought in the mind at the time of death. Yet, those who have completely surrendered themselves at the feet of God ensure that their last thoughts are focused on Him.
By His grace, such devotees transcend the cycle of birth and death and attain His divine abode, Sri Vaikuntha.
