New Delhi: A Delhi court on Tuesday allowed forensic examination of the voice sample of the Unnao rape victim in a case related to the alleged gang rape of her by former BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar, a week after she was raped in June 2017. The order was passed on an application filed by the lawyer of one of the accused, Shubham Singh.
According to the defense attorney, the woman denied that the voice in some of the recorded conversations was hers, even though those recordings were being relied upon during the trial. The defense has argued that these disputed recordings allegedly include statements in which she admits that “she had left her home voluntarily”, which could be “important objective evidence”. Special Judge Murari Prasad Singh, taking note of the plea, directed that the voice sample be sent to CFSL for comparison with the audio and video recordings already part of the case record.
The judge clarified that the forensic examination is being allowed only to aid the judicial process, and the evidentiary value of the forensic report will be examined and evaluated at the appropriate stage.
