Aneesh died in a wild elephant attack at Aralam Farm and he pledged to intensify measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents. These decisions were taken in the meeting held at the Collectorate on Tuesday.

MLA Sunny Joseph, District Collector Arun K were present in the meeting. Vijayan, Aneesh’s family members and public representatives attended.

Rajesh Kumar, project officer of the Integrated Tribal Development Project, said immediate steps will be taken to provide compensation and a recommendation has been made to the government to bear the education expenses of Anish’s children. He said a strong enforcement team has been proposed to address human-wildlife conflict and ensure a permanent mechanism to clean up the undergrowth. Secretary and Director of Tribal Development Department will soon visit Aralam Farm.

A special officer has been appointed to monitor agricultural operations and will conduct weekly field-level reviews. By the time the elephant wall work is completed by May 31, the solar fence will be repaired and strengthened, and an alert system will be installed to warn residents about elephant movements at the farm, said S Sujeesh, special officer, Aralam Farms.

The contractor has been instructed to deploy more workers to speed up the construction. He said additional patrols, including two from TRDM, would be deployed. Meanwhile, concerns were raised over damaged solar fences and inadequate farm maintenance.
