Purusha King Parikshit – King Parikshit knows he has just a week to live, and he doesn’t want to waste the time he has. So he asks the sage Shuka how he should spend the little time he has left in the world. How should he meditate? And what should his focus be on? Shuka says that meditation can be on the gross or subtle forms of God.
It is difficult to concentrate on the subtle form, explained Valayapet Ramachariyar in a discourse. So the best way to start meditation is to focus on Vishnu in the supreme form of Lord Krishna, i.
e. Virat Purusha.
This is the form in which the entire universe is contained in his body. This is the Vishvarupa form which Arjuna had the good fortune to see on the battlefield.
Suka describes the parts of God’s body, and explains that what we see as large is merely a part of His body. He starts by talking about Hades. Patala is the area below the feet of the great man, Rasatala is his heel, Mahatal is his ankle, and Talatala is his legs.
His knees are smooth, his thighs are strong and firm. Her hips are flat. The sky is his navel.
The world of heaven is his chest, the world of heaven is his neck. Satya Loka is its head. Indra and other gods are his arms, the ten directions are his ears, Ashwini Kumar is his ears, rivers are his veins.
Suka says that meditation should begin by focusing on such a huge form of Vishnu. When everything in the universe is found as a mere part of His body, one gets an idea of โโHis omnipresent nature. The fact that He is the Supreme Brahman becomes strong in our minds.
He is the insider of the entire world. In other words, he is the soul, and the universe is the body. Of course meditation requires control over the senses, because without control over the senses, the mind will lose its ability to meditate with unwavering attention.
