Geminid meteor shower – Finding an open area of โ€‹โ€‹sky, letting your eyes adapt to the darkness, and avoiding looking directly at the bright point are the best strategies. (Representational image: Freepik) As December evenings draw to a close, stargazers across India have yet another reason to get out and look at the sky.

The Geminid meteor shower, known as one of the year’s most consistent and visually stunning events, is returning, offering the hope of flaming trails through the winter sky. The meteor shower is estimated to reach its peak during the night of December 13 and early hours of December 14, a period that typically produces some of the most significant meteor counts seen annually. Under ideal conditions, viewers can see more than a hundred meteors an hour, a rate that sets the Geminids apart from the majority of other annual showers.
