Vijay at CBI headquarters New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday questioned Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay in connection with the Karur stampede on September 27, 2025, which left 41 people dead and over 60 injured, officials said. He left around 6:15 pm after being asked questions related to the rally at which the incident took place. The agency had initially asked him to appear on Tuesday, but he requested a different date citing the same.

Vijay left Chennai by charter flight at 7 am and reached CBI headquarters in New Delhi at 11:29 am. After completing the formalities, he was taken to the team of the agency’s anti-corruption unit probing the case. Anticipating a large crowd of his supporters, several units of Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces were deployed around the office to prevent protests.
The CBI has also questioned Tamil Nadu’s former ADG (Law and Order) S Davidson Devasirvatham. The federal agency took over the case from the Tamil Nadu Police SIT following a Supreme Court order and is collecting evidence under the supervision of a three-member supervisory committee headed by former judge Ajay Rastogi. Vijay, who has a massive following in Tamil Nadu, launched TVK in February 2024.
Its first electoral test will be the state assembly elections, expected to be held in May.
