Nepal Relaxes Visa Rules for Stranded Tourists

Nepal has implemented temporary measures to assist foreign nationals affected by the ongoing curfew in Kathmandu. The government’s response directly addresses the challenges faced by international travelers whose visas expired or were set to expire by September 8th.

Easing Visa and Exit Restrictions

Immigration officials have announced that these individuals can now obtain exit permits and regularize their visas without incurring additional fees. This streamlined process is available at both immigration offices and departure points, ensuring convenient access for all affected tourists.

Passport Loss Provisions

Recognizing the potential for passport loss during the unrest, authorities have also established a system for visa transfers. Travelers who have lost their passports can have their visas transferred to emergency passports or other travel documents issued by their respective embassies. This process adheres to existing regulations, facilitating a smooth departure for those affected.

Kathmandu Curfew

It’s important to note that a prohibitory order remains in effect in Kathmandu from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Additionally, a nightly curfew is in place from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am.
