The Union Health Ministry informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday (December 9, 2025) that there is no conclusive data available to establish a direct link of death or illness specifically due to air pollution. Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav said in a written reply that air pollution is one of the trigger factors for respiratory diseases and related illnesses.
Follow the highlights of the seventh day of the winter session of Parliament “The health effects of air pollution are a synergistic manifestation of factors which include food habits of individuals, occupational habits, socio-economic status, medical history, immunity, heredity etc. The Government of India has taken several steps to address the issues of air pollution.
,” Mr Jadhav said. He said the National Program for Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH), โState Action Plan on Climate Change and Human Healthโ, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), which aims to protect the health of women and children by providing them clean cooking fuel, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Swachh Bharat Mission and the National Clean Air Program launched in 2019 are some of the schemes that are part of the national level strategy to reduce air pollution levels across the country.
