Indian college students – As AI chatbots make their way into classrooms worldwide, OpenAI on Monday, October 27, announced a new education-focused initiative that looks to make it easier for college students in India to use ChatGPT to study. โChats for Students in Indiaโ is a webpage comprising more than 50 real-world use cases of how students in top Indian universities have been prompting ChatGPT to study as well as learn new skills and navigate college life. These sample prompts range from โcreate a study scheduleโ to โgenerate a practice quizโ, โget hostel cooking adviceโ, and more.
Institutions that have contributed to the new ChatGPT prompt guide for students include IIT Madras, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), and Delhi Technical Campus, OpenAI said. Students are using AI as an intellectual sparring partner to develop real- world skills like problem-solving, analytical reasoning and creative exploration,โ the Microsoft-backed AI startup said in a press note.
This newly launched initiative comes just months after OpenAI introduced ChatGPT โStudy Modeโ in India, which accounts for 13. 5 per cent of the global ChatGPT mobile app user base (the highest share among all nations), as per Mary Meekerโs internet trends report this year.
โChatGPT now is one of the largest learning platforms on the planet. Over 50 per cent of our users in India are under age 24, so students are a major audience,โ Leah Belsky, VP of Education, OpenAI, had said at the companyโs launch of its India-first learning accelerator in August this year. However, the embrace of AI chatbots like ChatGPT for schoolwork has led to concerns among educators who are worried about the technologyโs impact on studentโs critical thinking skills.
AI chatbots could also fall short in answering complex questions related to math and science topics.
