ChatGPTT to increase – OpenAI said it would not serve ads to users under the age of 18. The company also plans to prevent ads from appearing related to sensitive topics like health and politics. (Image: Reuters) OpenAI said it will start serving ads to some US users in ChatGPIT, accelerating efforts to generate revenue from AI chatbots to offset the high costs of developing the technology.

OpenAI said Friday that the ads will be tested with users of the company’s free tier and lower-cost Go plans, which it is now expanding globally. They will appear in the coming weeks and will be separate from the answers generated by ChatGPT.

Users on the more expensive Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise tiers will not have ads. OpenAI also said that advertising would not influence ChatGPT’s output and that user conversations would not be shared with marketers.

The move marks a major departure for the company that had until now relied on subscriptions. It shows OpenAI is facing pressure to grow revenue as it spends heavily on data centers and prepares for a widely anticipated initial public offering.
