The Cubbon Park police on February 3 filed an FIR against the security guards of a Bengaluru club for allegedly assaulting a 55-year-old private firm employee following a dispute over his entry into the club to retrieve his lost mobile phone. The incident took place on the afternoon of February 2 near the club gate on Lavelle Road and was partially captured by passersby on their mobile phones. Later these videos went viral on social media.
According to the police, the victim has been identified as Rajesh Ananth, who had gone to the club with his family on February 1. He had reportedly forgotten his mobile phone inside the premises.
At around 2 pm on February 2, he returned to retrieve the phone, but despite repeated requests the security staff refused to let him inside. Police said the situation escalated into a heated argument at the gate.
In his complaint, Mr Rajesh alleged that a security guard attacked him with a cane during the altercation. Police said the man, who appeared clearly distressed and under the influence of alcohol, took off his clothes in protest after being refused entry.
Police confirmed that videos of the incident have been collected as evidence. Based on his complaint, the police have registered an FIR.
