Thirty-five fishermen from Tamil Nadu were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Monday (November 3, 2025) for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fishing in Sri Lankan waters. According to sources, the arrested fishermen were aboard three mechanized boats – two carrying 10 people and one carrying 11 people.
Of the total, 31 are from Nagapattinam district and had gone into the sea. The remaining four fishermen were from Ramanathapuram district.
According to initial reports, boats and fishing gear were seized and the detained fishermen were taken to Kankesanthurai port and are expected to be produced in a local court after reaching the coast.
