Vaishno Devi Yatra Resumes September 14th After Landslide Suspension

The pilgrimage to the revered Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district is set to recommence on Sunday, September 14th, following a 19-day suspension. The yatra was temporarily halted on August 26th due to a devastating landslide near Adhkuwari in the Trikuta Hills, resulting in 34 fatalities and 20 injuries.

Yatra Resumption and Safety Measures

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDB) announced the resumption via X (formerly Twitter), stating the reopening is contingent upon favorable weather conditions. “Jai Mata Di! The Vaishno Devi Yatra will resume from September 14 (Sunday), subject to favourable weather conditions,” the official announcement read. Pilgrims are advised to visit the official website, www.maavaishnodevi.org, for detailed information and booking.

Essential Maintenance and Pilgrim Safety

The SMVDB spokesperson emphasized the importance of pilgrim safety and explained that the suspension was necessary for essential track maintenance and repairs to damaged commercial structures in Katra following the landslide. Pilgrims are urged to carry valid identification, adhere to designated pathways, and cooperate fully with on-site staff. The mandatory RFID-based tracking system will remain in effect to ensure transparency and traceability.

Board’s Commitment to Safety and Faith

The SMVDB expressed gratitude for the patience and understanding shown by devotees during the suspension period, noting that the resumption signifies a collective reaffirmation of faith and resilience. The Board reiterated its unwavering commitment to maintaining the sanctity, safety, and dignity of this significant pilgrimage.

Longest Suspension Since Covid-19

This 19-day suspension marks the longest interruption of the Vaishno Devi Yatra since the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions. Authorities prioritized the restoration of damaged infrastructure and ensuring the safety of pilgrims before resuming the yatra. For live updates, booking assistance, and helpline support, devotees are encouraged to utilize the Shrine Board’s official website: www.maavaishnodevi.org.

The cloudburst that triggered the landslide caused significant damage, necessitating extensive repair work. The SMVDB’s proactive approach in prioritizing safety and infrastructure repair demonstrates a commitment to responsible pilgrimage management.
