India and China on Wednesday held the 35th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on Border Affairs (WMCC) in Beijing to continue regular diplomatic and military engagement with a focus on border management and normalization of ties. According to a statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday, both sides reviewed the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and discussed measures to maintain peace and stability in the border areas.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that discussions took place during the meeting. Was “creative and visionary”.

Both countries expressed satisfaction at the progress made in maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas, which they said has helped in the gradual normalization of bilateral relations. The two sides also discussed issues related to border delimitation, border management, mechanism building and cross-border cooperation.

India stressed the need for an early meeting of the next Expert Level Mechanism on Trans-Border Rivers. India and China agreed to maintain regular diplomatic and military-level exchanges through existing mechanisms, including those agreed during the 24th Special Representatives (SR) talks.

Both sides also agreed to work towards concrete preparations for the next meeting of the Special Representatives to be held in China. During the visit, the head of the Indian delegation also met Liu Jinsong, Director General of the department. Paid a courtesy call on Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei, in-charge of Asian Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
