DMK rejects AIADMK – The AIADMK is understood to have sent a message to the DMK seeking support to form the government in Tamil Nadu, where recent elections have resulted in a hung assembly. However, the DMK leadership sidestepped the proposal, sources told The Hindu on Wednesday evening (May 6, 2026).
He said the party is “adamant on sitting in the opposition” as it has no interest in going against the people’s mandate. Following a series of rapid developments, the AIADMK had earlier reiterated that it would not support the rule to be formed by the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK).
Earlier in the day, TVK chief Vijay met him at Lok Bhavan to stake claim to form the new government, following which Governor Rajendra Arlekar dissolved the 16th Tamil Nadu Assembly with effect from May 5. Congress leader Pawan Kheda said the voter list was being “deliberately manipulated” and democratic institutions were being “compromised” to produce results favorable to the ruling party.
