Telangana Minority Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin and academic M. Kodandaram took oath as Members of the Legislative Council (MLC) on Monday (April 27, 2026) morning. On August 30, 2025, the Telangana Cabinet approved their names for the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota.

Congress leader and former cricketer Mr Azharuddin was sworn in as a minister in the Telangana cabinet on October 31, 2025, although he was not a member of the legislature. As per constitutional provisions, a minister must be elected or nominated to the legislature within six months.

This year April 30 was the constitutional deadline. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla last week approved the pending nominations of Mr Azharuddin and Mr Kodandaram.
