Four critically endangered mountain bongos have arrived in Kenya on their way back to their native forests after living in the care of a zoo in the Czech Republic for years. Bongos, rare antelope known for their striking stripes, have been declared critically endangered due to poaching and diseases. According to the Kenyan government, there are less than 100 mountain bongo left in the wild.
Many were deported to Europe after a major rinderpest disease outbreak in the 1980s caused thousands of deaths.
