The blast that killed 12 people has raised sharp questions about intelligence failure, the MP said, yet no suo motu statement was allowed by Speaker Radha Mohan Das Agarwal.
A member present at the meeting said that an All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP had raised the issue of the blast and related security. Delhi defaulted, but the chairperson “refused to discuss, and did not allow, any suo motu statement on the issue.
” โDisaster Managementโ was listed on the agenda in the meeting and it was attended by officials from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Directorate General of Fire Services, Civil Defense and Home Guards. The source said that the issue of the blast was raised in this context, but was not taken up.
On Monday evening, a powerful explosion occurred in a slow-moving vehicle at a traffic signal near the Red Fort in Delhi, killing 12 people and injuring many. The incident led to heightened security alert in the capital and across the country. The parliamentary panel’s refusal to permit discussion or allow statements on the blast comes amid political pressure with opposition parties demanding a prompt, independent investigation.
They have also questioned the government’s handling of internal security in the heart of the national capital.
