Rathour Sri Lanka – Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka on Thursday praised batting consultant Vikram Rathore for his “value addition” ahead of the T20 World Cup, saying his emphasis on adopting an aggressive approach has helped the batsmen play more freely. Rathod, who helped India clinch the 2024 T20 World Cup during his five-year stint with the team, was appointed Sri Lanka’s batting consultant for the ICC showpiece last month.
“Vikram Rathore is a good choice to join our team,” Shanaka said while addressing the Captain’s Day event along with seven other captains of the participating teams. โHis knowledge and his temperament โ โโhe always wants us to be in an attacking mood which allows most of the players to free themselves which I really like, he is a good value add to the team. โ Shanaka and his players are under pressure after a disappointing performance at home since the beginning of the year.
Sri Lanka lost 1-2 to Pakistan in the T20 series in early January and were defeated by England in both white-ball series that ended earlier this week. The Sri Lankan batting unit struggled in both series, although the captain defended his batsmen. “Don’t look for any failure in the batsmen, it always depends on the wickets and the shots we play,” Shanaka said.
He said that there will be improvements in the World Cup. The team faced the wrath of angry local fans in Pallekele after losing the T20 series two days ago.
Shanaka said, “I expect support from the fans. It is important for us to play well for them and for the well-being of the team. We are aware of the national pride.
” “The fans are supporting us. I would tell the fans that we did not perform well to get the right results in the last 3 matches, although we worked hard.
We are sorry for that. ” Sri Lanka will play its first match of the T20 World Cup against Ireland on Sunday.
