Chief Minister Bhagwant – Raghav Chadha, See AAP MPs joining BJP: How the ‘merger clause’ can help them avoid disqualification Raghav Chadha, See you MPs joining BJP: How the ‘merger clause’ can help them avoid disqualification New Delhi: A day after seven AAP MPs, six of them from Punjab, defected to the BJP, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann sought an appointment with President Draupadi Murmu. It is expected that he will meet these MPs along with the state party MLAs to recall them.

This development comes as AAP suffered a major blow when Raghav Chadha along with six other MPs quit the party and decided to merge with BJP. At a press conference on Friday, Chadha said the decision came after MPs felt that the Arvind Kejriwal-led party had deviated from its principles, values โ€‹โ€‹and core ethics.

When announcing the move he also described himself as “the right man in the wrong party”. “We have decided that we, 2/3rd members of the AAP in the Rajya Sabha, utilize the provisions of the Constitution of India and merge ourselves with the BJP,” he said at the Constitution Club in Delhi.

The report includes many prominent names like Swati Maliwal, cricketer-turned-Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh, Sandeep Pathak, Rajinder Gupta and Vikramjit Singh Sahni. Meanwhile, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh said he would write to the Rajya Sabha Chairman seeking disqualification of the three MPs under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, which deals with disqualification on the grounds of defection.
