As Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 31), there were celebrations across the country including Hyderabad. However, the celebrations turned disorderly in several parts of the city, with several videos circulating on social media showing instances of vandalism, traffic disruption and violation of public safety norms. Police were forced to intervene at several places and reportedly resorted to mild lathi charge in some areas to disperse the unruly crowd and restore order.
The Secretariat Road stretch, which has become a major point of public celebrations after major sporting victories, witnessed large gatherings on Sunday night. Hundreds of fans gathered to celebrate RCB’s title win, but many were seen obstructing traffic and violating traffic rules. A video from the area showed a group of supporters attacking police barricades, causing them to fall onto the road and disrupting the flow of vehicles.
Other people were seen roaming around shirtless and creating nuisance around. In another incident reported from KPHB, a group of people were seen throwing around waste baskets left by vendors after the weekly Sunday vegetable market. The video shows individuals scattering objects on the road, blocking traffic and behaving in a disruptive manner.
Another video circulating online shows a man peeking through the sunroof of a moving car and firing a rocket firecracker while holding a firecracker box in his hand, raising concerns over public safety and reckless conduct during the ceremony. Amid the celebrations, RCB urged supporters to celebrate the occasion responsibly. In a post on Twitter after the win, the franchise advised fans to celebrate with their families and avoid gathering in large crowds.
The team said, “The best way to celebrate is with your loved ones. Relive the memories and enjoy this special moment in the comfort of home. ” The appeal comes in the backdrop of the tragic incident that took place after RCB’s maiden IPL title win in 2025.
During the victory celebrations in Bengaluru, 11 fans were killed and more than 50 others were injured when a crowd crushed them outside the stadium.
