PM Modi New Delhi: NDA allies offered full support to three bills during the debate in the Lok Sabha on Friday. Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, leader of southern ally TDP, said his party will support the bills for delimitation and women’s reservation on the basis of “guarantees” given by Home Minister Amit Shah and PM Modi. He referred to Shah’s comments in the House on Thursday that there would be a 50% proportionate increase in seats in each state, with Lok Sabha seats expected in Andhra Pradesh.
Will increase from 25 to 38. Extending support, JDS’s HD Kumaraswamy termed DMK’s opposition to the Women’s Bill amendment as “fear-mongering” and said it was misleading to claim that the southern states would lose. He said that Congress has lost touch with the grassroots level and is not ready for the changes brought about by the bills.
Other colleagues also supported the bills. Union minister and JDU leader Rajeev Ranjan Singh said the amendment was not rushed as it took three years for the government to work at the ground level. Union Minister Anupriya Patel said the bills provide an opportunity to create history and urged all members to support them.
