Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan compared his journey with that of Shubman Gill. Recalling an incident from the time of his debut, Pathan revealed how Rahul Dravid groomed him.

Pathan also recalled how Virat Kohli was compared to Sachin Tendulkar and now Shubman Gill is being compared to Kohli. โ€œWhen I entered the Indian team at the age of 19, the great Rahul Dravid told me that it is good that you have come into the team, but from here things will get tough,โ€ Pathan said on Geostar. Pathan admitted that Gill also needs a similar adjustment now that he has been handed leadership responsibilities in different formats of the game.

“The same can be said for Gill. He became captain in that England series; he raised his average and authority within the team. Then he got the ODI captaincy.

When that happens, you get a chance to grow a lot,” Pathan said. “He has a lot of talent.

There will always be comparisons. Virat was compared to Sachin and now Gill is being compared to Virat, who has scored 25000-30000 runs,” Pathan said, adding that I think he is fully capable of it. He has an excellent range of shots.

The more responsibility and challenges he gets, the more he will grow as a cricketer. I have seen that he is always ready for cricket. ” However, things have not been easy for Gill recently.

He has been left out of the T20 squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup after being named vice-captain during the Asia Cup following a successful tour of England. He said, โ€œIt is unfortunate to miss the last World Cup also because we went with different combinations. But it’s more a combination than anything else.

When you pick 15 someone has to miss out and unfortunately, it’s Gill at the moment,” Agarkar said.
