Singer Zubeen Garg, who died in Singapore in September 2025, was reportedly “severely intoxicated” when he drowned while trying to swim in the sea near Lazarus Island, according to a report in The Straits Times. It has been said in the report that this special revelation was made by a police investigator on Wednesday.

Additionally, reports stated that Zubin had been drinking and had refused to wear a life jacket before jumping from the ferry on which he was travelling. The information was revealed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) David Lim, who testified during the coroner’s inquest into the singer’s death. Reportedly, when Zubeen was still in the water, his friends asked him to swim towards the boat, but he became motionless and was swimming face down.

When Zubin was pulled back onto the boat, several attempts were made to revive him. Zubeen was later declared dead in the hospital. The report states the cause of his death as drowning.
